Everybody feels tired, even exhausted at times, and you know that as soon as you have had food, a warm shower and a good sleep, you’ll feel better. But what happens when you don’t feel better? Could you be struggling with fatigue?
Defining Fatigue
Fatigue is defined in the Oxford English dictionary as “extreme tiredness resulting from mental or physical exertion or illness”.
Fatigue is so much more than simply feeling tired. It is feeling so exhausted that you are unable to manage to perform the tasks normally associated with daily living. It’s having your day-to-day life disrupted by constant, overwhelming exhaustion.
Fatigue: Symptom or Underlying Issue?
Fatigue is a symptom, not a condition in itself, it can be related to a physical problem or disease, a psychological problem or an issue relating to socio-economic lifestyle factors.
Simple Lifestyle Changes
It is suggested that you adopt lifestyle changes such as cutting out caffeine, drinking less alcohol and taking more exercise which can all help alleviate fatigue. However, should none of these help and your fatigue is ongoing, it is recommended that you see a Doctor.
Comprehensive Fatigue Management at ROC Health Group
ROC Health Group provides specialist fatigue management consultations where we recognise the benefit of combining recognised treatments with complimentary therapies.
When you make an appointment to see a ROC clinician, you’re putting yourself in the hands of expert professionals who will take a detailed history before deciding the correct investigations and treatment recommendations to meet your personal needs. ROC recognises the importance of gathering all the facts, so you will be asked to bring along with you any previous medical data you may have and to make a list of all the concerns you have regardless of how unrelated you think they might be.
