What do I need to know before attending an Offshore Medical?
An individual will be required to:
To bring a certified photo ID such passport or driving license
- To bring your glasses (and spares) / contact lenses if worn; Ideally you should not wear the contacts at the time of the appointment
- To avoid exposure to loud noise for 16 hrs prior to your appointment
- To bring any medication, doctor/ hospital letters and relevant investigations results
What to expect when attending an Offshore Medical?
Following this, the following will be carried out:
Physical examination by the doctor
- Height, weight, and resultant Body Mass Index calculation
- Blood pressure and pulse
- Vision testing
- Lung function testing
- Hearing test
- Urine check
- The doctor will also discuss the form you filled in and carry out any additional checks they think necessary.
- An OGUK medical certificate is valid for a maximum of 2 years. Occasionally, employers request the examination to be carried out more frequently.
- Some employers may ask for additional checks, e.g. drug test, to be carried out.
- ROC offers Fit to Train Medical Examinations and Certifications at the same time with undertaking an Offshore Medical if required.
How soon after the Offshore Medical will certificates be available?
Certificates will be available at the end of each appointment. Certificates are valid for 2 years unless there is a medical reason for a restriction.
Are OEUK Certificates recognised by all employers and outside the North Sea?
The OEUK medical is accepted as a worldwide indicator of health and fitness of anyone working in the Oil and Gas industry.
